CITY OF CAPE TOWN

MEDIA RELEASE

30 JUNE 2010

City repeats ‘Free Friday’ for MyCiTi bus service on 2 and 9 July

Friday 2 July and 9 July  will again be Free Fridays on Cape Town’s MyCiTi IRT bus service, following on the success of the first Free Friday last week (25 June).

The City of Cape Town offered free rides on the MyCiTi inner-city bus loop to all Capetonians and visitors this past Friday. A total of 2115 free rides were registered.

All rides on the inner-city loop route will be free, starting at 00:00 on Friday morning and ending at midnight Friday  (for both 2 July  and 9 July 2010).

The MyCiTi inner-city service has been specifically provided for the World Cup period and the City wants residents to experience this service as it offers a taste of the public transport system envisaged for Cape Town. Rides on the inner-city loop cost R8 per trip.

A permanent shuttle service between the Civic Centre and Cape Town International Airport is also in operation, at R50 a ride.

Route information is available at www.capetown.gov.za/irt and www.capetown.gov.za/2010 or from 0800 65 64 63.
